Africa's first AI & Peace
policy think tank

AI for Peace Africa operates at the critical intersection that most organisations fail to occupy — the confluence of deep technical AI expertise and frontline peacebuilding practice, grounded in the lived realities of African conflict, governance and community resilience.

Across Africa, the rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence is outpacing the governance frameworks and ethical safeguards essential for responsible deployment. In fragile and conflict-affected settings, this deficit is most acute.

Simultaneously, AI presents an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen early warning systems, amplify civic engagement, and ground African governance in values that are epistemically plural, community-centred and contextually grounded.

AI-enabled early warning systems, conflict monitoring tools and peacebuilding workflows deployed across 12 countries to identify root causes, build resilience and transform conflicts before, during and after crises.

Rigorous, evidence-based policy research on AI, peace and security for governments, continental institutions and multilateral bodies — from ethics frameworks and lethal autonomous weapons governance to inclusive AI standards that position Africa as an equal voice in global governance conversations, advancing both South-South solidarity and meaningful North-South dialogue.

Through the Annual AI for Peace Africa Summit, diplomatic convenings and the Youth, AI and Art for Peace programme, we forge linkages across peace efforts — equipping the next generation of peacebuilders with AI literacy and civic agency.

Peace is rooted in the upholding of fundamental human rights for all. Our AI governance frameworks reject systems that entrench discrimination or inequality.

Peace is anchored in justice and ensures redress and restoration for harms committed — including harms caused by algorithmically biased AI systems.

Peace is built on trust earned through responsibility, transparency and consistency — the same standards we apply to our own institutional conduct.
Impartiality
Peace is fostered through humility, awareness of biases, non-partisanship and independence — centring epistemic plurality and ensuring our work is never captured by any single interest or worldview.

A creative technology programme equipping young people across universities and Nairobi's most conflict-vulnerable constituencies with AI literacy, civic agency and peace messaging capabilities — in direct anticipation of Kenya's 2027 general elections. Over 500 young people trained online and in-person.
